What is solar PV?
Solar photovoltaic (PV) panels are used to capture the sun's energy using photovoltaic cells, which turn sunlight into electricity. They don't need direct sunlight to work and can still generate some electricity on a cloudy day. However, the stronger the sunshine, the more effective the solar panel systems are at producing electricity. Solar panels are most efficient when placed on a south-facing roof, with no shadowing or obstructions. Your property must remain connected to the National Grid to provide back-up power when required, such as on dark days or overnight. What are the benefits?A typical 3 kWp system can generate more than 2,500 kWh of electricity a year - which is around three quarters of a typical household's electricity needs.1 A 3kWp system costs from £11,000 (including VAT) to install, requires little or no maintenance and is guaranteed for 25 years. Sunlight is free, so you will make significant savings on your electricity bills, particularly if you use most of your electricity during daylight hours.

Our solar panel systems are also eligible for Government Feed-in Tariff (FIT) payments, which are paid for every kWh of electricity you generate. A typical 3kWp solar panel system can generate an income of more than £670 per year.1 Any electricity you generate that is surplus to requirements can also be sold back to National Grid. Overall, you can expect an average return on your investment of around 8%, which exceeds any interest payments you could achieve on savings accounts in the current economic climate.2

You will also drastically reduce your carbon footprint. Sunlight is a
completely green, clean energy source, with no carbon dioxide or other
harmful pollutants associated with it.
Who should choose a solar PV system?Solar PV systems are suitable for most homes, agricultural businesses, commercial and industrial premises, particularly farms, factories, leisure centres, schools, hospitals, industrial units, warehouses and other premises with a large roof area. Your property will need to be surveyed to ensure the roof is in good repair, with the correct pitch and sufficient southward orientation. You may also require planning permission for your solar panel installation. |
Funding your investment
Greenroute can provide a loan for up to 100% of the initial capital cost of your new solar PV system,3 which is paid back over an agreed period. Or you can lease your system through Greenroute at no cost.
